GCCTM Competition Details

Students in grades 6 - 8 are invited to participate in the GCCTM Middle School Math Competition. Teams of 3 to 5 students will compete in both individual and team contests. The competitions will be based on mathematical content found in the NCTM and Ohio Mathematics Standards for grades 6 - 8. Students may use any calculator that does not contain a QWERTY (i.e. typewriter-like) keypad. Calculators that have the ability to enter letters of the alphabet but do not have a keypad in a standard typewriter arrangement are acceptable. Personal digital assistants (e.g., Palm Pilots) are not considered to be calculators and may not be used during competitions. Students may not use calculators to exchange information with another person or device during the competition.
Each school may enter one team per grade level to compete with other schools for individual and team awards. Individual scores of team members will be averaged and combined with the score from the team test. Awards will be given for top scorers in both individual and team competitions. Overall winners will be recognized as well as top scorers at each grade level. Schools may enter additional teams and they will receive recognition for superior, excellent, or good performances. All team members will receive a participation ribbon. Each school entering a team must also submit the name of one staff member who is willing to either supervise a room during the competition or assist in judging.
Registration cost is $20 per competition team and $10 per participating team. Pizza will be ordered for schools as requested. Paper plates and napkins will be provided. Beverages and snacks will be available for students to purchase. Students are asked to bring their own pencils and calculators for the tests.
